Try downloading the updated absinthe and then jailbreak

Make sure you do a fresh restore and setup as a new device before jailbeaking. The process will take a while just wait for it to reboot.

My iPhone is already jailbroken but there is now an OS update to iOS 5,1 was wondering if it would be ok to let the phone install this update. Or would installing the update screw up my jailbroken iPhone?

If you install the update you will lose your jail brake. Currently, there is not a process to jail break 5.1

Your choices, install 5.1 and return to stock or, like me, remain jail broken on 5.0.1.
