June Release for Cheaper iPhone Looking More and More Likely

AppleInsider reports today that Topeka Capital analyst Brian White has said that he thinks that Apple will indeed be releasing a cheaper version of the iPhone in the middle of the year. In a research note to clients today, White wrote that research by the investment research firm back in December unearthed evidence that suggested the existence of iPhones with different screen sizes that Apple intended to launch in May or June 2013. White adds that he thinks that June will be the earliest that the new phone will launch, and he says that it could be called something like “iPhone mini” or “iPhone Air”, with the latter being a reflection of the phone being lighter than the full-priced iPhone. White also says that he thinks that this cheaper iPhone would be priced at around $250 to $300, or 58% below the $649 that you’d pay for an unlocked iPhone 5 16GB.
