To be technically correct, there is no "Hard Reset", there's only a Reset as such pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-10 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings. But if it means Restore, then a Restore will wipe your iPhone4 but you can install your backup afterwards.

Thanks for the replies.I'm new to iPhone coming from Android.I've been watching this forum for all the info I may need.I'm impressed by not only the iPhone but all the knowledge that flows from here,along with a certain amount of BS.
