Welcome to iPhone Forums, chrsdrshm!

The only difference between the Apple Watch models is the case. All series 2 models have the same internal components. The series 1 models have the upgraded processor of the series 2, without the other series 2 features. The original Apple Watch is no longer sold by Apple.

Best advice I can give is to make sure you get the best protection package the carrier offers, or insurance. Whatever is best. And also get a good case as well. Not sure about the watches as I've not owned one of the apple ones. But I'd say they work well!! Good luck and enjoy the experience of having a new operating system as well as phone. You'll like how easy these phones are to operate. Have a great one!
