AppleInsider reports that Apple industrial designer Chris Stringer has been showing off some fascinating prototype iPhones at the Apple v. Samsung trial yesterday. Stringer was the first witness for Apple to take the stand, and presented the collection of prototypes in order to give the jury some idea of the design process involved in making the iPhone. According to AppleInsider, Stringer has been involved in the design of every one of Apple’s “Designed in California” devices as far back as 1995. Stringer also revealed that Apple’s products are often designed around a kitchen table by a team of around 15 or 16 people. The Verge said that Stringer displayed almost 40 prototypes, some of which didn’t look anything like what would go on to be the first iPhone, and some of which did. He also explained that some of the prototypes sported the iPod logo either because they were designed before the term was invented or because Apple was trying to hide the fact that the prototype was a phone and not an iPod.
