Hey all.
Recently changed networks so new sim in my 15 pro max which includes wifi calling, and its not working, its attempting to use mobile signal only which is shocking in my town.
I do recall when i put the new sim in something popped up on my phone that id never seen before, asking me to choose my email address associated with my apple account for wifi calls, i wasnt sure what that meant and i hit cancel, i mean, wifi calling was all already working with the previous sim.
Anyone know how to fix this please or where i may find the option?, when i toggle the wifi calling button on and off and back on again i get no pop ups anymore asking the wuestion so i just assumed all was ok, i dont know where else to look to fix the setting for wifi calls.

I use wifi calling frequently when I'm in the Arctic, due to the poor cell service up there.

I've found that it sometimes stops working for no apparent reason and requires a couple of kickstarts. First, turn off wifi and wifi calling. Then turn wifi back on, and then restart wifi calling.

I'm a bit puzzled as to why the service wants an email address. It asks me for a physical address for 911 calls, because 911 is handled differently when you are using wifi. It has never asked for an email address.

I've actually changed phones since I last used wifi calling and just noticed that it was copied to my new phone from the old one. I suppose I should turn it off since I'm currently nowhere near the Arctic.

You may need to turn on Airplane Mode and then turn wifi back on to force the phone to use wifi calling. I believe it will default to using any cellular service, no matter how poor it is.

yes i thought of airplane mode but calls without a mobile signal, unless via whatsapp or messenger are going straight to voicemail, and thats not a solution i can use, ill end up forgetting airplane mode is on and go out and miss tons of calls or messages. Its getting really annoying now because i was previously on giffgaff 2 week ago, was working fine then. i just cant see a fault being on the phone side at all.

It sounds like your immediate problem is your poor local cell service. Presumably, things improve when you are in an area with better coverage?

If I think of anything that might help, I’ll post it here. I’m on my way to the Arctic right now so I’ll have plenty of time to think.

Thanks, yes im out in a rural area, reception is shocking, but its never really been a previous issue and the network ID happily publicise using wifi calling on their network, and my phone is compatible on their list. Im really lost what else to try, i do know im only on a monthly rolling plan, so if its not resolved by the end of this week as much as i cant be bothered with the hassle i will be getting a pac and going elsewhere. Its weird because before the Three / Voda merger, everything was fine, id and three had decent signal here, but since they merged, its just a dead zone, yet Vodas has got better!, im assuming in their wisdom they decided to prioritise Voda customers over Threes network.

This is what I got when I checked AI I was going to mention about the network reset myself but I would think that would be a last step so you don't lose all your other connected saved places, I think the update emergency address might be your issue.

Check Wi-Fi Calling Settings
The main setting is usually located here:
Go to Settings.
Tap Cellular (or Mobile Data depending on your region).
If you have dual SIMs, choose the line that has your new SIM card (you'll see your carrier name).
Tap Wi-Fi Calling.
Make sure the toggle for Wi-Fi Calling on This iPhone is On (green).

The Missing Step: Emergency Address & Carrier Activation
If the toggle is on but it's still not working, it's highly likely the carrier-specific activation—which requires you to confirm your emergency address (E911)—did not complete because you hit cancel.
On the Wi-Fi Calling screen, look for a link or option that says "Update Emergency Address" or similar. Tapping this might re-initiate the required prompt from your carrier to confirm your location for emergency services. This step is often required by law before the feature fully activates.

🔄 Troubleshooting Steps
If the setting is on and the address option doesn't appear, try these common fixes in order:
Toggle Wi-Fi Calling Off and Back On:
In Settings > Cellular > Wi-Fi Calling, turn the toggle Off.
Wait 30 seconds.
Turn the toggle On again. See if the required activation prompt (for the address or terms) appears this time.
Restart Your iPhone:
A simple restart can often resolve network-related issues after a SIM change.
Reset Network Settings:
Warning: This will delete all your saved Wi-Fi passwords and cellular settings (like preferred networks/APNs). Use this as a final step before contacting the carrier.
Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset.
Tap Reset Network Settings. You will need to re-enter your Wi-Fi password afterwards.

🔄Done everything in your list multiplane times without any joy except the part you mention above, i can find absolutely no way to be able to access the setting unfortunately.

Scratch that, found it, all updated, emergency contacts were already in there, also made sure apple account is in use for facetime with correct email and phone number etc.
Im at a loss, everything appears to be as it should be.

UPDATE - Ok so powered off iphone, removed sim and put the old no longer working giffgaff one back in, just to reset the apn details, in settings on giffgaff it actually shows an extra setting to view the apn, i dont see this with id sim in. I then tried the id sim in my old android phone and wifi calling indeed worked fine on that phone. I then swapped the sims back and put the id sim back in iphone and powered up, made sure wifi calling was on in settings in mobile and in phone settings but still no sign of wifi calling working.
Switching to airplane mode and enabling wifi i then try to call a number from the phone and indeed i get a pop-up saying network unavailable etc etc. So i know wifi calling isnt actively working, and whats annoyed me is it worked fine before i got this stupid id sim grrrrrrrrrrrr,
What to do next???, im not resetting my entire iphone, thats out of the question itll take me weeks to restore 2 years worth of data, apps and accounts so all i can think of is finding a friend on a different network thats active and seeing if theyll let me try their sim in my phone to see if wifi calling works with that, or update phone which i dont want to do, i am on ios 17.7 and dont want to upgrade further because of privacy concerns, regardless what anyone argues i have cast iron assurances that apple ai is recording all iphone data and sending it back to apple servers. Final option is if friends simcard works the wifi calling on my phone, shes on voda, then bomb id off completely and switch to a voda network.
This has been pure hell trying to fix it and im grateful to all who tried to help but i think every fix, option etc has been well covered and i really cant find anything else anywhere on google that ive not already tried.
