White iphone has a small windows above the front speaker

what is that. My black iphone 4 doesnt have that windows.

It's the proximity sensor that senses when you have the phone to your ear. The phone then turns off the display and disables the touch controls while you're talking. The black phone has one too - it's just more difficult to see. Look at the front of your black phone in bright daylight some time.

do you think I need a srceen protector with the window for the sensor?

if you get a screen protector, im sure it wont matter, because the screen protector is clear so it wont obstruct the proximity sensor
