A fun story on CNETÂ’s Technically Incorrect blog today about a marketing campaign by McDonaldÂ’s in Stockholm, Sweden, featuring a giant interactive billboard displaying a game of Pong that people in the vicinity of the billboard were able to control with their smartphones. Participants who manage to stay in the game for 30 seconds without being beaten earned themselves a digital coupon for free food and/or drink at the nearby McDonaldÂ’s. In order to play the game, the passersby simply had to enter a URL in their phoneÂ’s browser. The phoneÂ’s geolocation would then detect if the user was close enough to the billboard to play the game, without the need to download an additional app of any sort first. Then, after first entering what sort of prize they would like, the user could go ahead and take direct control of the paddle on the billboard via their smartphoneÂ’s touchscreen, and follow the game in real time.
