Sim card to esim without carrier

I am embarrassed to admit it, but I forsook the iPhone for the past 3 years and have been using an Android. Hell exists. Later today, I am returning to the fold. I have repented. I am going to buy the 14 Pro Max.

Is it possible to switch from the physical sim card to the esim without the carrier's (ATT) help? (Large group plan, but the group Admin is no longer able to deal with access to group members.)
