I'm thinking of ordering this MATEPROX case.
This is case or bumper?
It's a case, it has a PC back, I actually prefer bumpers but I like the style of this one.
Yes, I can't see the point in buying a beautiful phone then completely covering it so it's beauty is hidden.
Driving myself mad trying to decide which would look best with my red phone, the one above or this black, they're both nice.
Red is my favourite colour too
I finally settled on this case by X-Doria and ordered it today.
I normally go for something like a bumper that shows off the back of my iPhone but I'm not mad on the shade of red that is Product Red, also it shows every fingerprint and soon looks messy.
I think this case is very smart.

Does the flash firing through the case have any noticeable effect on photos?

Hi
No, I haven't noticed any difference. Although I had to do a test shoot since I never use a flash .
I find it unnecessary. Harsh and overly bright.
Here are the two shots I took, with and without the XR case for comparison:
