ringer not working

looks like this is a an issue that ya'll know well. I (foolishly) went for a $50 iPhone 4 "deal" w/Verizon. Less than a week after having the phone, the ringer stopped working. Do you recommend that I simply return the phone or is there a patch that can be downloaded, or??
