I have an old, obsolete iPhone 5S. A friend told me he read on the internet that if I turn the Airplane Mode on when charging, it'll take half the time to charge. Now, he tells me the internet also said this technique will shorten battery lifespan.

Is either of these "internet facts" true?

Activating airplane mode turns off the cellular radios which will lessen battery drain. Your iPhone may charge faster but nowhere near twice as fast. Don't believe what your friend says about decreasing battery lifespan either.
