Protect excel documents

during the days when I was using windows 10 there was an option to password protect a certain excel or even a word document.
Is there a method with a MacBook to achieve the setup as Windows

I am not familiar with securing Excel, but on a Mac - if you create a document in Pages, you can protect it with a password by tapping on File and selecting Set Password.
