Power down iphone

Hi When I try to power down my iPhone using the home button and the on/off button it doesn't show the red slider, it just shuts off any one help me?

The method you just described is for Hard Resetting the iPhone. If you just want to get the power off slider, simply hold the Sleep/Standby button by itself.

LOL. You are too kind. Prior to iOS 6 however it used to work both ways. Which is where the confusion usually stems from.

I'm trying to get my parents to stop hard resetting everynight! They think they are saving power or something. Maybe there is an app for that???

Yeah, LOL, iOS 6 doesn't need to be hard reset every night. But, if they want to turn the phone off every night because they want to save battery power, there is no issue doing it. Simply tell them to hold the top button only until they get the power off slider.
