Old emails keep been pushed through

I have finally managed to get my pop3 blueyonder.co.uk email account working on my iphone 4 sine the dam software upgrade but now all it does it keep downloading all my old emails 50 at a time. As there are 3000 of them i am getting a little fed up with it. How can i stop this from happening as it never happened before the software upgrade........I thought upgrades were there to improve your phone not make it worse Mr Apple! :-(
