Must get rid of contacts

My wife's contacts are on my phone and I can't get rid of them. This all started because we used
the same email as our primary account. We don't share the account anymore. Now, I can't delete her contacts from the contact list. I've tried everything. HELP!

On your phone, go to the Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Click on the email account with the contacts you do not want -> Contacts -> Set to OFF
