9to5 Mac reports that it has discovered that Apple is currently testing taller iPhone displays, which could confirm that the next iPhone will be taller, as has been rumoured for many weeks. By tweaking the iOS Simulator app included in the iOS development tools, 9to5 Mac says that it has been able to run the simulator at what is thought to be the display resolution of the forthcoming iPhone 5, 640 x 1136. 9to5 Mac ran both the current iOS 5.1 as well as iOS 6.0 beta at that resolution, and found that whereas the iOS 5.1 simulator displayed four stretched icon rows on the home screen, iOS 6 showed five complete rows, as you can see in the picture. What this essentially means, 9to5 Mac points out, is that iOS 6 is ready to adapt to taller displays, and scales perfectly to fit, so it’s looking more and more likely that the next iPhone will indeed be taller.
