iTunes to Apple Music

Does it convert correctly meaning if I hook up my phone to the computer... I have an iPod and several other things that use iTunes so will my computer recognize my iPhone and just convert all the music to my iPhone and if that happens and I still use my iPod for iTunes or will I lose that capability?
