Iphone not working at all!!

I resently purchased a used, unlocked iPhone 3gs and i made the horrible mistake of updating it to iTunes. Now it says it has to be activated but wont read the sim card (i have tmobile) i assumed it had to be jailbroken so i got the whole iPhone unlocker pro thing and that seems to be another mistake because it does not yet support iOs6 which is what the iPhone updated it to. I just want to be able to use the iPhone that's all. Any help as to what i may have done and/or how i can fix it.

did you verify that the iPhone was factory unlocked when you bought it?

check on a website for ex. dev.mk or www.s-url.ro/
