Iphone back up

If i follow these steps:

1. plug in iphone
2. choose not to sync
3. back up i phone
4. un plug iphone

Will the iphone change even in the slightest way? I did this once before and it like changed a picture or something. I guess what im asking is.... If i follow those steps exactly will there be any sign that the iphone has been backed up in any way?

There aren't really any signs that the phone had been backed up. If you ever need to manually find the back up they are stored in C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup on win 7 and ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/ on OS X

Wanting to make a backup of someone's iPhone w/o them knowing huh... Nothing on the iDevice will change from simply doing a backup.
