Iphone as phone only no data plan

I have been using an old iphone 3g as a phone only. all of a sudden att is trying to charge me for a data plan. before i did this every one told me they could be used as a phone only. I have the celluler data turned off, is their some thing other that needs to be done.

The bad deal is that AT&T requires smartphone users, especially iPhone, to have a data plan. Even if you have cell data disabled they know you're using an iPhone on that line & will charge your for an applicable data plan. It's kind of a catch 22... if that makes sense.

the only reson i use it is because it is easyer to text than the small buttonson my moto

Are you asking if AT&T will be able to detect the Jailbreak or that you're using an iPhone period?

To answer both: No, AT&T cannot detect if you're iPhone is Jailbroke... Yes, they'll still be able to tell you're using an iPhone.
