According to new figures from Strategy Analytics, via AppleInsider, Apple’s iPhone 7 was the best-selling smartphone in the world in Q1. Strategy Analytics’ figures show that global smartphone shipments totalled 353.3 million units in the first quarter of 2017. 21.5 million of those were the iPhone 7, and 17.4 million the iPhone 7 Plus.

This means that the iPhone 7 had 6.1% of global smartphone sales and the iPhone 7 Plus had 4.9% of global smartphone sales. Just behind those two was the OPPO R9s with 2.5% and then the Samsung Galaxy J3 and J5 at 1.7% and 1.4% respectively. The huge "Others" category had the biggest percentage overall, with 83.3%.

Apple reported its second fiscal quarter results on April 26, with iPhone sales declining year over year at 50.8 million sold, with Apple CEO Tim Cook attributing the fall to earlier and increased leaks about future iPhones. This has been particularly the case as far as the iPhone 8 is concerned, as it is set to be a major redesign.
