Fantastic news for Apple from two major carriers, according to 9to5 Mac, which reports that both Sprint and T-Mobile have announced record pre-orders for the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.
T-Mobile says that its pre-orders for the two iPhone 7 models are more than four times those for the iPhone 6, with Friday seeing the record smashed for the biggest single sales day for any smartphone ever in T-Mobile’s history.
Sprint says that it too has more than four times as many orders for the iPhone 7 than it did for last year’s iPhone 6s, with pre-orders up more than 375% over the initial 3-day pre-order period compared with last year.
If this trend is reflected in similar figures from other carriers, it would vindicate those analysts, such as BMO Capital Markets analyst Tim Long and Timothy Arcuri at Cowen & Co., who bucked the overall trend by forecasting massive sales for the iPhone 7, as opposed to the majority of Wall Street, and, indeed, Apple’s own guidance for the quarter that it expected to see a year-on-year sales decline.
