iPhone 5 "scuff gate"

Unfortunately, Apple may have dropped the ball on this one. And Maps, and blah blah blah. LOL!! While we all love slim fitting cases... something that's a bit more surrounding might be in order. Don't necessarily need to go the Otterbox or Lifeproof route if you don't wish but, definitely something that comes up around the sides.

I'm waiting for the Lifeproof since I'm out in the dust and weather a lot. For now, I've picked up a bumper type case that covers the back and sides completely and slips into a holster for when I'm on a horse. I used the Otterbox on my iPhone4 when outside and usually let it run around naked while at home. There's tons of bumper type cases out there now, picked mine up at BestBuy and it actually isn't too bad of a case, just need a little more dust protection for when I'm out working horses.

Could not have said it better. I have had a defender on everyone of my iphones and when I sell an iphone i've upgraded out of people ask if the phone is new since there isn't a scratch on it anywhere. I know the defender makes the phone a bit bulky but the protection it provides i'll deal with that.

There is one I highly recommend, however they do not have a version yet for the 5. It is the Graft Leverage. I love it, and because of the covering they have it is both non-slip in your hands but does not catch on the fabric of my pockets, which I don't like with the silicon cases. I would watch, or look for one like it for the iPhone 5. Everyone who has looked ant or tried mine has gotten one. My phone is in mint condition because if it. I do have a Lifeproof I use when out hiking/camping or in areas where water may be an issue.

Carbon Bumpers. I went to carbonbumper.com and got the black carbon fiber back with no apple cut out and the black bumper for the edges. It adds virtually nothing to the thickness and it looks about as good as the naked phone. As for drop protection, being that the iPhone 5 has the"tougher" aluminum back. I am not too worried. I had it on my iPhone 4 and even with the glass back that little bit of "buffer" served me well in a couple of drops.

Check out the speck candy shell cell phone cases. I did a lot of research with reviews on what cases hurt the phones. It seemed any case that had a hard surface against the phone would trap some sort or dirt or dust and scratch the phone. I found the speck candy shell case has a soft rubber inside that the phone sits in and it has a hard plastic outside to protect from falls and stuff. This case hands down is the best.

Tried it with my current 4 and hated it. IMHO what's the point of buying such a nice looking/thin phone to cover it up to keep it perfect for the next guy? It's like buying a Ferrari and not driving it to keep the miles down so the next guy can enjoy the low miles when u sell it.. I don't know. Maybe I could get a couple extra bucks for my 4 when I sell it if I cased it for 2 yrs but I would rather enjoy the sleekness of the phone while I have it. I know there's Alotta people who's work would require them to protect their phone from water/drops/dirt/ etc.. But I can't wait to buy my 5 in a couple weeks and enjoy its nakedness lol. (Meanwhile I will probably drop and break it the first day) just my 2 pennies

Can't dirt get between the soft surface and phone and still cause scratching? That's one of my beefs with putting my phone in a case. My 4 had a couple cases until I gave up on using then and the only scratches on the phone are from the cases I had(with a soft surface touching the phone).

You can try the Zagg Invisible Shields. I believe if you get the maximum coverage you get front, back and side protectors. I had one on my Rezound and 4S, they work amazingly well. I currently have the front and back for my iPhone 5 (the HD kind) and love it. Thin, hardly noticeable, and very strong and dependable.
EDIT:: Not sure if you are looking for any solution or just a case, so sorry if you are wanting a case!
