iphone 4 activation issue

My cousin sold me her old iphone 4 the other day, it was running 4.3.3 without a sim card. I upgraded the iphone to 5.0.1 when i got home and now I can't use it without a sim. I would like to use the iphone as an ipod for a while, is there anyway I can hacktivate my phone without a sim card on 5.0.1?

I use my old iPhone 3 as an iPod. It has a sim card installed but is not connected to any network. Do you have an old sim card you can install? Ask around your circle of friends and family, I bet someone has a unused sim card they'll give you.

How did you update without a sim card installed?
