iPhone 3GS operating system

Dad has an iphone 3GS but being technically a monkey he cant use an app he could do previously.

The app needs iOS 4.3.


I've tried downloading i-tunes and hooking it up but it doesnt do anything, I'm expecting it to tell me something about software update or whatever.


Any help/advice?

Plug it into iTunes and go over to the device's profile on the sidebar. If you're using iTunes 11, you'll need to enable the sidebar by clicking on the little icon on the top left corner of iTunes, click on "Show Menu Bar". Then click on View and select "Show Side Bar". Click on the iPhone on the sidebar and there should be a restore button. Backup the device first, then click the restore button. If iTunes doesn't recognize it at all, you'll need to put the iPhone into DFU mode after manually backing up the important data using utilities like iExplorer or iFunBox.
