iMessage problem

Until today I could imessage my partner who has an iPhone 4s (i have a 3gs) but for some reason as of today I cannot imessage him I can imessage everyone else I have in my phone i am at a total loss I have rebooted etc but nothing works why can I not im him any more help anyone
