9to5 Mac reports that Google has designed a new YouTube app, YouTube Go, specifically to help users avoid running up huge data bills on the go. Unfortunately this very handy app won’t be available anywhere other than India just yet, but Google says that the app will be rolled out in other countries in the future, including the US and Europe.

YouTube Go is designed to help you preserve your precious data allowance in four different ways:

a) You can use the offline mode to download content via Wi-Fi and then watch it later.

b) You can use preview mode to view an animated preview GIF of a video to decide whether or not you want to watch the whole thing.

c) You will be able to tell at a glance just how much data each available resolution will use.

d) You can send a video that you want to share with a friend directly to them via Bluetooth, to save their data allowance.
“Building for India and other countries where the next billion Internet users are coming online not only improves their experiences,” said Google, “it gives us better ideas that work for everyone.”
