getting new iphone...can i transfer texts from old one?

hello, ive been looking on this site today to find this answer.

ive got a 3g and looking to upgrade, only to a 3gs but i want to be able to keep my photos and more importantly, my texts.
i rang someone at the 02 shop and they said when i plug in my new phone all the data will go onto straight from the old one.
Is the right? and how do i do it?
also can i have 2 iphones connecting to the one computer as i have 2 seperate itunes?

Firstly connect your current iPhone when it appears in iTunes perform a sync (it will back-up everything)

When your new iPhone arrives connect it to iTunes as it will be your first time setting it up it will ask you if you want to set up new iPhone or restore from back up (click restore from backup)

Secondly, yes you can connect two iPhones to iTunes

Thanks for your reply. So a sync is essentially back up then as I did read somewhere else when you plug your phone in and iTunes comes up that you can right click on your iPhone icon in the left panel and then a small menu comes up with the option to "back up"
Should I do this or will a sync be enough.
I don't understand how my texts will be transferred, as I cannot see them on my computer when doing a sync.
Are they somewhere hidden and will definately go onto my new phone?

Yes do a back-up that way if you wish or a sync will back-up first and you will not be able to see your messages on the pc but trust me it will sync everything on your phone including messages ;-)
