Garmin and Embark have posted new information according to which they have rolled out revamped apps that now include public transportation features closely integrated with Apple Maps and are especially tailored for the new wider screen of the iPhone 5.

Garmin has updated StreetPilot Onboard and Navigon by adding an extra ingredient to the mix – the Urban Guidance, in the hopes of transforming the act of walking around the city or taking public transportation easier and more reliable. We all know how frustrating it can be to look for a location you have never been to before, asking around for directions and ending up going the wrong way nevertheless.

The apps can help users build detailed itineraries for buses, trams, trains or water taxis. In case you would be travelling by car, the app is capable of saving the exact location of your parked car. The apps are also able to calculate your routes indicating the speed limit, providing parking information and advising you on different route alternatives. Joern Watkze, vice president of mobile phone business for Garmin Wüerzburg described the technology:

"With our recent updates our apps can now serve as an extension to Apple Maps, providing iPhone users advanced navigation capabilities.”This includes our new public transportation functionality as well as many additional premium features that aren't available on free navigation apps."

Embark also offers a line of orientation apps that enable users to have access to directions for different regions and provides the fastest route to destination available.
