MacStories reports that the official Facebook for iPhone app has just been updated today with some useful new features, including map view for Places, the ability to check in to Events that you’re going to, and better News Feed and Notifications UI. You can also now “unfriend” people from within the iPhone app, which surprisingly you couldn’t do before. Simply go to Friends, choose the person you want to “Unfriend” and press “Unfriend” to do the deed. Another news story on the update on TechCrunch examines the whole Event Check In feature in more detail. Before the update, you could only check in to an event via Facebook Places, so you could only check in to locations. Now you can actually check in to specific events yourself, not just places. According to TechCrunch, in order to check in to an event, you first have to be invited, and have stated that you’ll be attending. You also must be at the same location as the event venue and at the same time as the event in question.
