exchange email connection

I have setup my phone to my work exchange server. I am getting my mail but i do not want to delete the messages off the server just off my phone.

any way to do this?

I'm in iPhone 4 with iOS 4.2.1, I can't sync my work email (mail for exchange). It keep showing 'unable to verify account information'. Do you face this problem before? Any solution?
