how do I get emoticons on the iPhone 3G??

Do you have iOS 5 on it ?

if you have iOS 5 go to SETTINGS > General > Keyboard> International Keyboard > ADD Keyboard > Find Emoji > add ... then it should be there.

I do not believe that iOS 5 is supported on the 3G. I believe it only goes back to the 3GS. Here is a link iOS 5.0.1 Software Update to Apple support. I realize that this link references iOS 5.1 but I think 5 supports the same devices.

Also, there are many emoji apps in the App Store, many of which are free. Maybe try one of those?

found it out! thanks guys all I had to do was download some number spelling app and use the code and then the emoji keyboard was in my international
