Downloading iTunes gives %APPDATA% error

Newbie here
Just took the plunge into the Apple iPhone world and got the iPhone4 ... Didn't know I would *have* to hook up with iTunes (just wanted a phone really).
Anyway, I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium and logged in as Admin, trying to download iTunes/QuickTime - this gives error:
"could not access network location %APPDATA%\"

Any ideas how I can proceed. I've got a brand new iPhone 4 which I can't use as a phone because I can't download iTunes???

Any help to get me going again would be appreciated.

I would try turning off your firewalls and virus protection when you try to download it.
