Square Enix has today announced that the next instalment in the Deus Ex series, Deus Ex: The Fall, will be coming to iOS soon. The game is set in 2027, a golden era for science, technology and human augmentation, but also a time of great social divide and a global conspiracy, with powerful corporations seizing control from governments and taking charge of the drug supply that is essential for augmented humans to live. The game’s hero is Ben Saxon, a former British SAS soldier turned mercenary, who himself has been augmented, and who is on a mission to uncover the truth behind the drugs conspiracy. After being betrayed by his military superiors, the Tyrants, Saxon must act quickly to save not just his own life, but the lives of all augmented humans.

Deus Ex: The Fall was developed by Square Enix’s Mobile division in Europe, in collaboration with the original Deus Ex: Human Revolution team at Eidos-Montreal and N-Fusion. The game is a story-driven action-RPG, and is the first ever Deus Ex game to be released on mobile and tablet devices. It includes never-before-seen characters from the novel, Deus Ex: The Icarus Effect, continuing on from where the book finishes.

“We’re really excited to continue the DEUS EX series on mobile and start a new journey”, said Jean-François Dugas, Executive Game Director at Eidos-Montréal. “The team has done an incredible job creating a whole new story and controls for intuitive touch screen gameplay, whilst staying true to the DEUS EX universe. Players can expect exploration, action, hacking, stealth, social enhancers, player choice and consequence- the full DEUS EX experience.”

“Smart devices are central to Square Enix’s platform strategy and we approach it with the same attention as our boxed and digital releases. DEUS EX: THE FALL is going to be testament to our commitment in delivering high quality entertainment on mobile and tablet devices,” said Antony Douglas, General Manager of Square Enix Mobile.

The first instalment in the mobile series is due sometime this summer, priced $6.99/£4.99/€5.99. If you’re going to E3, you can view it at the Square Enix booth, which is in the South Hall #1647. I hope they do a good job with this, as the first Deus Ex game is one of my all-time favourites!
