CVS Pharmacy is one of the few retail locations which refused to hop aboard the Apple Pay train. Previously committed to MCX and its CurrentC payment solution, CVS decided to launch its own alternative to Apple's mobile payment system.

A new update issued to the CVS Pharmacy app adds CVS Pay. The new feature links credit or debit cards to the app, which customers can then use to pay with at checkout using a barcode on the app.

The barcode can simply be scanned by a store associate, or if one is picking up a prescription at the drive-thru, a pickup number can be located underneath.

CVS' new pay solution works with all major credit cards including MasterCard, VISA, Discover, and American express. The feature also takes full advantage of the store's ExtraCare loyalty program.

The CVS Pharmacy app can be downloaded in the App Store for free.
