Auto insert recipient

When I open Mail, New Message, I could start typing the recipient’s name and his/her name would be suggested and inserted. Nowadays, I have to press + and go through all my Contacts list to find the name I want.
How do I fix this, please?

Did you recently clear your cache or restart your iphone? It may be an area that needs to be repopulated through use.

My Phone has certainly been restarted occasionally but not since I asked the question. It hasn’t been ‘repopulated through use’. This has never happened in the past, whether or not the phone has been restarted.
I don’t have the problem with my iPad - that still has a list of suggested names when I start typing.
