Things are starting to get really exciting now as far as the forthcoming iPhone 8 is concerned, as MacRumors reports today that according to a new report from Nikkei, Apple has just ordered 70 million OLED panels from Samsung, which will be Apple’s only OLED supplier.

Both Apple and Samsung are confident that the new iPhone will be high demand, particularly as it is expected to feature major design changes, including an edge-to-edge display and glass case.

Nikkei’s information, which comes via an anonymous source in Apple’s supply chain, sounds credible, and is in line with another recent estimate from David Hsieh from IHS Markit, who said that Samsung will be able to manufacture up to 95 million OLED panels in 2017 should demand be even greater than expected.

Hsieh agreed with other reports that the OLED iPhone could be in short supply initially when it is launched in September, with many customers possibly having to wait until 2018 to get their phones, “depending on demand.”
