AppleInsider reports today on a note to clients issued by Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty following her meeting with senior Apple executives, in which she says that Apple now sees product cycles as software, rather than hardware, driven. Huberty says that this is reflected in Apple’s choosing to announce a major software update at its Worldwide Developers Conference in June rather than launch a new iPhone, as has been the pattern for the past few years. Apple has already announced that it will be unveiling “the future of iOS and Mac OS” at WDC, which certainly seems like a significant pronouncement. Recent rumours have suggested that Apple’s next iOS will be heavily dependent on cloud-based services. In her note, Huberty also reiterates her previous thoughts that Apple’s Earnings Per Share could reach $50 in 2013, buoyed by cheaper iPhones, an iPod-like market share for the iPad, and further expansion into Japan and other new markets.
