Apple is Bringing Apple Pay to China

Apple has announced recently that it is bringing Apple Pay to China, saying it is partnering with UnionPay in the country to bring support for its mobile payment solution to iPhone, Apple Watch, and iPad users. Chai Hongfeng, executive vice president of China UnionPay said the following:

"China UnionPay is dedicated to promoting payment innovations and providing secure, convenient mobile payment experiences for its hundreds of millions of cardholders, aligning multiple parties in the industry. We’re very excited to offer Apple Pay among a diverse set of innovative payment options that work with China UnionPay QuickPass.”

Eddy Cue also said which Chinese banks will be supported:

"Apple Pay transforms everyday shopping and our China users will love the incredibly convenient and secure way to pay. We’re thrilled to be working with 15 of the leading banks in China, who have signed on to support Apple Pay, including Agricultural Bank of China, Bank of China, Bank of Guangzhou, Bank of Shanghai, China Construction Bank, China Ever-bright Bank, China Guangfa Bank, China CITIC Bank, China Merchants Bank, China Minsheng Bank, Industrial Bank, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, Ping An Bank, Postal Savings Bank of China and Shanghai Pudong Development Bank."

According to Apple, the partnership with UnionPay allows for a secure and vast rollout in China which will being “as early as 2016,” after the final tests and certification required by the Chinese government.
