A nice surprise on Thursday came to programmers and developers when Apple made its new programming language Swift open-source. The company announced that it had plans to open source the language some time ago, but it wasn't until this week when the project went live.

The announcement was so exciting to the programming world that Apple's own Swift.org struggled to keep up. Apple also planned to make GitHub - a website for open-source project - the metropolis for Swift programmers. However, folks who visited the site were disappointed when they found what looked to be an empty GitHub page.

While the GitHub page was live and under the Apple moniker, this was simply a mistake on the company's part, planning fully launch it the next day. Currently the open-source project and the GitHub page are live and available to all as they should be.
