A few days ago, my colleague Maura covered the news regarding a new iOS bug which was causing the Messages app on iPhones to crash. Through a new support document recently published, Apple acknowledges the Messages bug and offers a simple workaround to temporarily circumvent the issue.
So, If Messages quits unexpectedly after you get a text with a specific string of characters, you need to do the following:
- Ask Siri to "read unread messages."
- Use Siri to reply to the malicious message. After you reply, you'll be able to open Messages again.
- In Messages, swipe left to delete the entire thread. Or tap and hold the malicious message, tap More, and delete the message from the thread.
