Alert sounds not working

I have several apps that alert me for this or that e.g. hourly timer beep.

The apps are all functioning but no sound alerts anymore. None of 'em.

Surely a box needs ticking or unticking but I can't see what it is?

Have you by any chance activated the Mute Switch above the Volume buttons?
