Trouble to update iphone 4 with iOS 4

Please, can someone help me in discovering an easy way to update iOS 5 on iphone 4, evoinding that messages of "time of connection has expired"

I also would like to see a good reply to your question. I still have iOS 4.1 on my iPhone (works like a charm) and everyone tells me UPGRADE TO iOS 5.1. Yeah right -- since I've read that there may be a quirk, a flaw, or whatever, upgrading to iOS 5 from a 4 or 4.1 iOS. Of course, I don't think Apple has a definitive statement on this. What say you, whiz kids?
