AppleInsider reports that Apple CEO Tim Cook has been chosen by Time magazine as one of the runners up to US President Barack Obama as Time Person of the Year 2012, alongside fellow runners-up, Pakistani schoolgirl Malala Yousafzai, Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi, and scientist Fabiola Gianotti. In a three-page profile on Cook, written by Lev Grossman, Cook’s the importance of the beginning of Tim Cook’s tenure at the helm of Apple, after Steve Jobs’ untimely passing, is examined in detail, and includes quotes from Cook himself. In the profile, Time notes that when Cook became Apple CEO, this marked the first time in Apple history that a former CEO had not been ousted by the incoming CEO.

“Each time the way that the CEO was named was when somebody got fired and a new one came in,” Cook told Time. “Steve wanted the CEO transition to be professional. That was his top thing when he decided to become chairman. I had every reason to believe, and I think he thought, that that was going to be in a long time.”
Many congratulations to Tim Cook on such an honour.
