Sync question

This is probably a setting somewhere, but I don't know where. I was installing a few apps on my new ipad, and I had it connected to my computer to sync with iTunes. My iPhone was sitting on the other side of the desk minding its own business. After a while I picked up the phone and noticed that the apps I just installed on the ipad were also installed on the iPhone.

What would cause this?

Automatic syncing via wifi. You can toggle this in the settings.app.
