my friend has a cheetah print as her background for her text messages, how can I get that?

What sms application is your friend using? The stock one? Whatever it is, a jailbreaking is involve in achieving these kind of stuff. So if you are not jailbreak yet I don't see how you can get that done to the stock SMS app.
