Phone turn it self off

Hi there guys and Girls My Iphone 3G which is running the latest update turns it self off every now and then i then have to either plug it into the computer or a spare battery well today it would not turn on. So I toke it to the apple store and the genius said that the solid drive may be going bad is that true. So to the other question if that is the problem should I bite the Bullet and get a Iphone 4 or hope the phone lasts for the iPhone 5 or 4S what every the next one that comes out

Buy the iPhone4 now as until now there is no time release for the 5. In addition no one know how stable the 5 going to be.
