Earlier today, Maura brought us a great piece on Apple's iPhone turning five soon. Her story shared the massive revenue that Apple has generated with the iPhone over the last 5 years. We also found a really interesting article from Business Insider that expands even further on what Maura's article already touched on, and shares some additional factoids. Here they are in a handy bullet point list for you:

  • [*]Five years ago, the iPhone didn't exist. It now generates nearly $25 billion of revenue per quarter, or $100 billion per year.
[*]The iPhone business is now bigger than Microsoft.
[*]The iPhone business likely now generates at least $30 billion of profit per year (profit!).
[*]The iPhone has destroyed at least three huge companies in the past 5 years, and has deeply wounded others.
[*]The iPhone has created an entirely new industry and ecosystem.
[*]The iPhone has inspired half-a-dozen huge, strong competitors, but, so far, it has stayed a step ahead of all of them.
[*]The iPhone has made Apple the most valuable and profitable company in the world.
Wow! This means that the iPhone business alone, not including the iPad, and all of Apple's other ventures is now bigger than most other companies on the planet! What an impossibly high benchmark to reach. Happy birthday iPhone!!! Congratz on leaving everyone else in the dust!
