Different iphone back covers

I know there are 3 different covers but how can i tell the difference between them?

Model number. Serial etc

I do not know about the types of iphone covers. I usually use iphone covers or cases of bright colors. I have chosen some of the cases after reading this ***Moderation Notice*** which made my task easy to choose.

If they're stock covers, there should be models and or serials on the back that will identify it. But in terms of cases and covers, it's the same form factor between the 3GS and 3G, and the 4 and 4S. Only the internals have changed
